From Fishwrap to Bar Crawl

November 5, 2004 -- We miss Fishwrap, the irreverent mag by gadfly Marty Wombacher which had regular features such as "Hey Asshole!," consisting of photos of guys coming out of the Conde Nast Building. But Marty's back with a new mag soon, "Bar Crawl," which will definitely go on our reading list next to Modern Drunkard and The Chap [see Make Life Beautiful].

"I felt like I kind of took Fishwrap as far as I could," says Marty, who wrote a book called "99 Beers Off the Wall." "It's fun being a cult success, but you're lucky if you break even. So I stepped away, took a break and had a lot of drinks."

Marty describes "Bar Crawl" as "Basically just me wandering around town and writing not only about the bars, but about the experiences I have while running around Manhattan half crocked. It's a lot of observational humor type stuff. There's also columns like "Hey Bartender", "Celebrity Booze Deaths" and "Last Call".
